APU-DMU DUAL DEGREE PROGRAMME
 

Students who are under Bachelor’s Degree Programme will have the option to opt-in for the APU-DMU Dual Degree Scheme. Under this Scheme, students will receive 2 Degree Certificates & Transcripts upon graduation: 1 from Asia Pacific University (APU), Malaysia and 1 from De Montfort University (DMU), UK.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

General Requirements
DIRECT ENTRY TO LEVEL 1 OF THE DEGREE:
STPM• 2 Passes in STPM with a minimum Grade C+ (GP 2.33) and a Credit in Mathematics and a Pass in English at SPM Level or its equivalent.
A-LEVEL• 2 Passes (Grade A-D) in A-Level in any 2 subjects, and a Credit in Mathematics and a Pass in English at SPM/O-Level/ IGCSE or its equivalent.
UEC• 5 Grade B’s in UEC including Mathematics with a Pass in English.
MATRICULATION/ FOUNDATION• Passed Foundation programme (minimum CGPA of 2.5) with a Credit in Mathematics and a Pass in English at SPM/O-Level/IGCSE or equivalent.
ENTRY TO LEVEL 2 OF THE ACCOUNTING, BANKING OR FINANCE DEGREE:
DIPLOMA IN ACCOUNTING

• Passed Diploma with minimum CGPA of 2.5 and a Credit in Mathematics at SPM/O-Level/IGCSE level.

Any qualification that APU accepts as equivalent to the above.

Note: The above entry requirements may differ for specific programmes based on the latest programme standards published by Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA). The qualification and entry requirements for the programmes will be determined based on the "Comparison List of Equivalency of International Qualifications with SPM (O-Levels equivalent) and STPM (A-Levels equivalent)" published by Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA).

PROGRAMME OUTLINE

This programme is specifically designed to provide students with:

  • Comprehensive Financial and FinTech Knowledge: Discuss state-of-the-art financial principles, theories, and technological developments while applying technical proficiency to address financial issues and create innovative solutions.
  • Technical and Analytical Expertise: Build and utilise advanced technical skills, programming languages, and data analytics to develop financial applications and make data-driven decisions in the evolving digital landscape.
  • Leadership and Professional Competency: Demonstrate leadership, independence, and entrepreneurial skills in steering FinTech projects, adhering to ethical standards and professional codes of conduct in the financial industry.
  • Effective Communication and Lifelong Learning: Communicate complex financial ideas clearly to diverse stakeholders, foster strong interpersonal relationships, and integrate lifelong learning to adapt to dynamic global challenges.

DEGREE LEVEL 1

Students will learn the fundamental skills required for every finance job as well as a basic understanding of business management and finance. Students will also be exposed to business management skills, creativity skills, accounting skills, and technological concepts.

DEGREE LEVEL 2

Students will develop a comprehensive skill set, including financial management, planning, regulatory frameworks, and portfolio management. The curriculum emphasizes core FinTech technologies such as Python, R-programming, UI/UX, and Blockchain, alongside digital marketing concepts to produce well-rounded FinTech specialists. Practical training and technical applications ensure students are equipped with financial, technical, and marketing expertise. A 16-week internship before the end of Year 2 bridges the gap between classroom learning and real-world FinTech experience.

INTERNSHIP (16 WEEKS)

Students will undertake a short Internship/ Industrial Training for a minimum period of 16 weeks to prepare them for a smooth transition from the classroom to the working environment.

DEGREE LEVEL 3

In Year 3, students will delve deeper into multidisciplinary learning, covering risk management, global banking, entrepreneurial finance, and ethical principles in the financial industry. Technical skills will be enhanced through training in cloud computing, cybersecurity, and big data analytics. Design thinking methodologies will be introduced to foster innovative problem-solving. Students will culminate their learning by producing a comprehensive capstone report, demonstrating their mastery of financial principles, technical expertise, and practical application of design thinking in real-world scenarios.

In order to remain competitive in digital banking sphere, banks have started to employ more staffing resources in the digitisation initiatives. Thus, our Bachelor of Financial Technology (Honours) (one of the first industry-driven FinTech curriculum in Malaysia) will prepare the graduates to meet the needs of a rapidly disrupted Financial Services industry in Malaysia and internationally with the ability to develop innovative ideas and to employ state-of-the art technologies.
